Earth Aid Enterprises Recognition Resolution of 2009

Whereas, Earth Aid Enterprises was founded in the District of Columbia in 2007 by Ben Bixby, a district resident, and Greg O'Keeffe, as a leading online, Residential energy-efficiency retailer;

Whereas, Earth Aid Enterprises brings consumers, business, and government together to promote sustainability in order to benefit all sectors of the city, and to serve as a model in green innovation for the nation;

Whereas, Earth Aid Enterprises launched the first free service where residents can monitor their electric, gas, and water usage online and receive customized tips on how to save money;

Whereas, Earth Aid Enterprises created a first-of-its-kind rewards program whereby local businesses provide discounts and promotional opportunities to district residents who conserve energy and water;

Whereas, Earth Aid Enterprises promotes the cycle of sustainability and mutual benefits created by the rewards program—where district residents save money, district businesses attract new green consumers, and where pollution is reduced throughout the Washington Metropolitan Area;

Whereas, Earth Aid Enterprises encourages green job growth by providing information and incentives for residents to conduct home energy audits;

Whereas, Earth Aid Enterprises exemplifies the kind of private sector innovation necessary to tackle climate change and other environmental and economic development challenges our country faces every day; and

Whereas, Earth Aid Enterprises established a community model in the green-sector the entire nation can follow.

Resolved, by the Council of the District of Columbia, that this resolution may be cited as the “Earth Aid Enterprises Recognition Resolution of 2009”.

Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia recognizes and commends Earth Aid Enterprises for its innovative work to promote residential energy efficiency in the District of Columbia.

Sec. 3. The Council of the District of Columbia salutes Earth Aid's leadership team, Ben Bixby, Greg O'Keeffe, David Burd, Eric Milford, and Lindsey Petersen.
